That is what Millie was to take back over to them....I brought it to the CED meeting....it was delayed because of the .75 FTE listed on the contract and was changed to 1.0 FTE. Millie probably just got back in the office yesterday?

Pete,

We have used Jubilee for hands-on MWC training many times during the 5-yr lease. Volunteers have learned about controlled burning; hand-thinning pine timber thinning; planting longleaf seedlings in naturalistic clusters within light gaps; and selection of replacement hardwood saplings and protecting them prior to burning in hardwood forests.

We have put forage demo plots out there and used Jubilee as a field trip site for past Master Wildlifer programs.

Dale Bennett and I taught 4-H shotgun range to Boy Scouts, who camped overnight at Jubilee.

Joe

As a follow up to our conversation this morning I am requesting guidance
on how to proceed with Jubilee, the Chiles property, located in
northeast Leon County. On October 18, 2002 the University of Florida
and Rhea Chiles entered into a contract where the University of Florida
would manage the property and have use of the facilities on the property
to further their programs. The North Florida Research and Education
Center was designated as the unit responsible for carrying out the terms
of the contract. A major priority at the time was to develop and
implement a management plan which included vegetation management through
prescribed fires and other means. This has been done and the management
plan has continues each year since the contract was signed. The contract
had a term which ended on October 18, 2007.

Each year, Jubilee has been used for a variety of events. During 2007,
the following events took place on the property;

April----District I Extension Faculty Meeting ~30 people

June---4-H Forestry/Wildlife Day Camp for Leon and Jefferson Counties.
5 days with an average attendance of 70 people each day including
adults.

November---National Wild Turkey Federation Annual Wild Game Dinner---~60
people.

For the coming year a request is in place for the 4-H camp in June and
the Florida Wildlife Federation in March.

NFREC resources devoted to the property largely consist of providing
assistance to the Division of Forestry when a prescribed fire is
scheduled, minor tidying up (mowing, sweeping buildings, etc.) prior to
a scheduled event and occasionally checking in on things between uses.

In as much as the previous contract has expired, do you recommend that I
proceed with renewing the contract with the Chiles family?

Dick

Hi guys,

I will be out of town the week of Dec 10 to 14 and will not be at the admin and ded meetings on the 11th.  I will be able to call in if you want to stick with our conf call at 1pm on the days before our ded meetings, i.e., Dec 10.  Let me know and I will set it up.  I can even try polycom from my laptop.

Peace,

If he is using a single monitor with VGA he does not need an S-video cable. Set Polycom to dual monitor mode.

What display setup is he using?

Tom...

AEC Instructors:

The live grade system will open on Friday, December 7 around 8:00 a.m. Log onto MyUFL and after clicking the My Self Service link you should see the ENTER GRADES link. Please email me ASAP if you do not see this link, and I will check to be sure you were added as a grader for your course.

Instructors are individually assigned a section for research and special topics hours for their student(s), we eliminated the system of registering all students into one section. Keep in mind that our graduating students will not be awarded a degree if their grades are not entered into the Grade-A-Gator system by the deadline-this is critical for graduate students.

All grades are due by Noon on Monday, December 17.  Any grades not submitted will require paper change of grade forms.  If a change of grade needs to be done and the system is not yet closed, please contact me and I will have the section reopened.

Using ISIS, students will be able to see their grades as submitted Monday evening, December 17.

Degree Certification Status will be available on ISIS Tuesday late afternoon, December 18.

Transcripts with all grades (as submitted) and appropriate remarks will be available Wednesday morning, December 19.

Let me know if you have any questions or problems with the Grade-A-Gator system.

Thanks!
Jodi

Pete,

I suggested a quaint B&B tucked near downtown and Little Havana. Here’s the link.  The rates are not bad for winter season.

Not far from the port, neighborhoods, etc.  Since you will have a good number it would be recommended to book a block soon.

Holiday Closing Period

Subject: Holiday Closing Period

DATE:
November 1, 2007

TO:
Deans, Directors, and Department Chairs

FROM:
Kyle Cavanaugh, Senior Vice President for Administration

SUBJECT:
Holiday Closing Period

I am pleased to announce that this year the university will
observe Monday, December 24, 2007, as a holiday in addition
to the regular December and New Year holidays. The
December 24 holiday also will be observed by the university's
various outpatient health clinics. This decision was based on
the proximity of that date related to the holiday closing
period which runs from December 25, 2007, through January 1,
2008. Adding December 24 to our holiday schedule will allow
us to reduce our energy consumption for a total of 11 days,
which will result in significant cost savings for the
university.

The holiday closing period is designed to offer departments
the flexibility to close or significantly reduce staffing
during the holiday season as decided by the appropriate vice
presidents working with deans, directors, and department
chairs in their areas. Since December 24 would otherwise be
the only day that non-essential employees would be required
to report to work, President Machen has approved this day as
a holiday for all employees.

In addition, all TEAMS employees and 12-month Academic
Personnel will be credited with four personal leave days to
be used where possible during the period of December 26
through December 31. UF vice presidents-working with deans,
directors, and department chairs-will determine which TEAMS
employees and 12-month Academic Personnel are considered
essential personnel and, therefore will be required to work
to support campus operations. HSC faculty, staff, and
students with clinic responsibilities must check with their
respective colleges to determine their work requirements.

USPS employees are not eligible for the four personal leave
days between December 26th and December 31, but they may be
required to use vacation or accrued compensatory leave during
the holiday closing period if a department chooses to close
or upon supervisory request.

In the event a USPS employee does not have accrued vacation
leave to cover the period, he or she may request that
vacation leave be advanced to cover that absence, in which
case the department is obligated to provide such leave. The
holiday closing period is the only time during which vacation
leave may be advanced. USPS employees also may use leave
without pay, in keeping with University of Florida policy,
during this time.

For planning purposes, I recommend that you initiate
discussions to determine which departments and work units
will be closed or to what extent departments and work units
will be closed during the December 26 through December 31
time period. I also recommend that you, identify which
employees will be designated "essential," determine whether
USPS employees will be required to take time off during this
period, and that you share this information with employees in
your area. Additional information on the holiday closing
period will be distributed via the InfoGator later this
month.

For additional information, please contact Central Leave at
(352) 392-5732, or at HYPERLINK "mailto:central-leave@ufl.edu" central-leave@ufl.edu.

From the Office of Human Resource Services, we wish you a
joyous and safe holiday season.
